"It's still day one" at Amazon

After a four long years of college i ended up in Amazon- Alexa Data Services,Chennai. I got selected into Amazon when i was in the last few months of college. Pretty much i was the first one to placed in my department since the placement happened in the month February. Everyone were happy since the brand name Amazon is really popular and since it's not related to the customer service or delivery process. It was even exciting for me, but i didn't expect anything.

So, i went for the Pre-hire orientation on the 3rd of May and my date of joining was 21st of May. The orientation was right on the week of my finals, but luckily that day i had no exam. The process is pretty new, i never heard of the process before but i understand since it has to be confidential. The site i went was huge and amazon had 12 floors on the block i went. Because Amazon Development Center India is in Chennai, so it makes sense why there would be so many employees. It was an Introduction orientation were they explained about the policies and rules they have. Then I finished my exams and officially joined Amazon on 21st May . There was 30 people in my training batch and i was batch number 6.

The first one week was only full of sessions and no practice, they explained all the theories and policies. After, the first week we started to do training exercises. So, as per the requirement the training period was supposed to be only for three to four weeks after that we should take a test and get the minimum percentage required. But, i was still in training for one more week and i took 5 more tests to clear the training period.

Later, i was moved to the main team from the training batch. Luckily i had two of my training batch mates in the same team . The new team i moved in worked on a very specific task apart from the other process in ADS which seemed to be easy but it wasn't. Maybe at-least for me at the beginning it felt like easy but it is not. Every team has a benchmark percentage to achieve with respect to the quality of my work. I have achieved only once in past six months and the rest of the time i was in the grey area where i almost reached the mark but didn't get it.That has been going on for the past few months in regards to the process. With respect to the manager i am under the second manger now, my first team manager moved to a another team and we have a new manger now.She is pretty cool i would say but even my last manger was also cool. By, cool i mean not strict to the core but had few relaxations here & there and now & then.

I like the process and the atmosphere here in amazon which is fun and not tiring. But, i feel like it is not up to my potential. The reason i am still going forward is because i want to stay show my best.

Now about the team, it is pretty awesome, as i said before i had two of my batch mates in the team and they are the best. Apart from the them everyone are really good and awesome. The team is a very mixed group, i like the dynamics. I am learning more in personal lives with these 20 sum members compared to what i learn for the process.

I am a person who believes everything in life happens for a reason and this has to be one of the many things which going to shape my life ahead. I don't know how long i am going to be in this team or even in Amazon.
